The landing operations began
the night of the 5th of June
1944, when 3 Airborne divivisions
- followed by several hundred
rangers were dropped into France.
Between 06H30 and 07H30, 135,000
men and roughly 20,000 vehicles
were brought in by sea on 5
landing beaches as planned.
The beaches visited are all
steeped in history and museums
are a plenty - all worth a
visit!:
Sword
(British) / Juno (Canadian) /
Gold (British)
Omaha
(American) /
Utah
(American)
All these beaches are linked
by a modernised coastal road -
ideal for bike touring. Here is
our pictorial library from a
biking tour June - July 2004.
Included are some usuful iternary
ideas and contacts for a great
bikers Bed
& Breakfast en route.
